#172 Paint Overview
(1) Paint components
Components of paints are <1> Coating main component, <2> Coating composition assistant component, <3> Pigments, <4> Solvent. The coating main component is the important main component that characterizes the paint, and contains macromolecular substances such as polymerized oil, natural or synthetic resin, fiber elements, and derivatives of rubber, etc. Though they are macromolecular, they are of relatively small in molecular weight of 3,000~6,000. They become more macromolecular after painting and drying.
The coating composition assistant components include plasticizer, drying agent, hardener, thickener, etc. These additives are added depending on the desired characteristics of the paint coatings. The solvent dissolves and disperses the coating main component.
(2) Various classifications paints
Paints can be classified from various perspectives as shown in [Table 1].
