Production technology measures useful in countering trouble prone screw parts feeding are described.

There are a number of issues regarding fastened screws based on a) shape of screw heads, b) shape of threads, c) shape of holes, d) existence of washer or not, e) differences in materials and surface treatments, etc. Therefore, adaptability for many variations is required for the screw parts feed mechanisms.


(1) Configuration of screw parts feeder

Screw parts feeder configuration is as follows.

Screw alignment unit --- An automated device to store, align, separate screws. See [Photo 1]

Screw distribution unit ---A device to distribute screws from the screw alignment unit to the screw chuck of the automated screw fastening device.
Feed the screws through a distribution tube with air pressure, etc.


(2) Troubleshooting examples of the screw parts feeding device

1) Troubleshooting example of a screw alignment unit
a)In many cases of screw parts feeding errors (Causes: mixed parts, out of parts, hangups due to burrs) can be effectively detected and determined with photoelectric sensors and timers on the alignment feeder.
b)Internal tracts and chutes of the feeder need to be kept clean in order for the screws to slide smoothly.

2)Troubleshooting examples of the screw distribution unit
a)Detailed maintenance is required on the tubes for air leakages due to wear, and gradual curvatures of the tubes need to be stabilized.
b)Proper distribution method needs to be selected based on the screw shapes (screw head shapes, weights, lengths).
